The Gut-Skin Link, Explained Simply
You will often hear that skin and gut are connected. Here is what that does and does not mean.
The idea
Researchers study whether the community of microbes in the gut influences inflammation and, through it, the skin. This is called the gut-skin axis.
Where the evidence stands
The NCCIH digest notes that dermatology guidelines do not recommend probiotics for treating established atopic dermatitis because evidence is inconsistent.
Early signals
Smaller studies suggest possible roles in acne and rosacea, and reviewers say larger trials are needed.
What it does not mean
It does not mean any gummy will fix your skin through your gut. It depends on the specific ingredient and amount.
